Zoning Technician

This position reviews building permit applications and Development Services applications for compliance with Zoning Codes and Ordinances for commercial and residential projects. Provides courteous and professional customer service.

  • Meets with customers and provides professional and courteous customer service; explains Development Services applications and zoning procedures ensuring public understanding and awareness.
  • Accepts, prepares, reviews, files, and retrieves site plans, variances, special exceptions, code amendments, maps, and applications.
  • Maintains operational records and files; prepares related reports; revises records and reports as necessary to assure standards are met. Assists in compiling data and information as needed for inspections and meetings.
  • Assists contractors, County employees and members of the general public in resolving complaints and/or issues as they pertain to zoning and Development Services applications.
  • Prepares and distributes application packets and zoning information upon request.
  • Receives, and responds to inquiries regarding zoning issues; interprets and explains codes, ordinances and regulations to engineers, architects, contractors, property/business owners and other interested parties.
  • Reviews building permits, zoning permits, special event permits and other similar applications to ensure compliance with local regulations.
  • Reviews and issues zoning certifications.
  • Processes, tracks, and verifies applications for accuracy and compliance with zoning codes and ordinances.
  • Attends required meetings, training courses and seminars to maintain knowledge required in the position.
  • Locates, interprets, summarizes, and provides information from maps, reports, file and field investigations, code, ordinances, and literature related to zoning and Development Services applications.
  • Conducts field investigations and inspections as required.
  • Determines uses allowed by zoning.

This position requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent and two (2) years experience and training in zoning compliance and ordinances or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. May require a valid State Driver’s License.

 

The hourly range for this position is $18.2161 – $27.7178. The County provides a comprehensive benefits program and participates in the Florida Retirement System (FRS) and has a 3% employee contribution requirement.
