CNC Operator

Job Summary

Operate a variety of CNC machines produce precision parts.

Inspect all parts while operating machines

Backup to Material Handlers.

 

Qualification Standards

Education and Experience:

  1. High School Graduate or equivalent preferred or on the job training.

Skills:

  1. Operate CNC Machine
  2. Read technical drawings and verbal instructions to fabricate machine parts.
  3. Operate metal fabricating equipment/machinery.
  4. Use precision measuring tools or equipment.
  5. Understand machine setup instructions.
  6. Selection of proper tooling for CNC Machine.
  7. Computer skills.
  8. Drive Forklift (Must be Certified or will train).

Physical requirements:

  • Visual acuity (corrected) to read directions and prints and to inspect machined parts closely  to ensure that they meet specifications.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate machinery for precision work.
  • Frequent standing, stooping, and bending.
  • Frequently lifts 25 pounds, lifts 50 pounds occasionally.

Duties and Functions

  1. Responsible for routine machine maintenance and keeping work area in neat condition.
  2. Follow all safety rules.
  3. Operate all common machine shop equipment and hand tools skillfully.
  4. Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
  5. Measure, examine, and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers.
  6. Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and calipers.
  7. Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine need for adjustments or repairs.
  8. Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines or grinders.
  9. Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
  10. Clean and lubricate machines, tools, and equipment to remove grease, rust, stains, and foreign matter.
  11. Maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
